Fatma Uyuklu is an articling student at MUNERA. Fatma is a JD graduate from the University of Ottawa, Common Law Faculty (Class of 2018). Prior to entering law school, she also received an Honours BA in Law and Society from York University, where she graduated with Distinction.
Fatma supports lawyers and assists clients at MUNERA in different areas of law such as family, real estate, and employment. Fatma also supports the firm’s corporate, immigration, estate planning and litigation practices. Prior to law school, Fatma’s passion for human rights and social justice advocacy has seen her take part in various initiatives domestically and internationally. Fatma has taken part in grassroots lobbying in Toronto and Ottawa. She has worked with the Toronto Kurdish Community Centre on issues around women’s equality and human rights violations. Fatma was also involved with various student organizations at York University, one of which she founded. Additionally, Fatma was selected as a coach at York University, where she assisted new and returning students make the transition into university life. Fatma’s community involvement and academic performance led to her being selected for an internship at Toronto City Hall. During her internship, she assisted the city Councillor with research, and issues facing the Councillor’s constituency. During law school, Fatma continued to pursue her passion by engaging with student organizations and communities in Ottawa. During her studies, she has also developed an interest for employment law, immigration and refugee law, as well as real estate law. Fatma's multifaceted background has also exposed her to a diversity of roles such as acting as a host of a popular community-based television program, fundraiser and events organizer, amongst others. Fatma is fully bilingual in English and Turkish. She is also conversant in Kurmanji, a Kurdish Dialect. |
